Life in Christ is the essence of our faith. The apostle wrote, 'If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation'. He addresses the Ephesians as the 'faithful in Christ Jesus'. He uses this idea nearly two hundred times in his writings. For Paul, a Christian is simply a man or woman who is 'in Christ'. Theologians call the believer's connection with Christ 'union with Christ', and state that it is 'the central truth of the whole doctrine of salvation', and 'at the heart of evangelical theology'. But what does it mean to be 'in Christ'? The writer maintains that union with Christ is so fundamental that it transcends time and space, and the doctrine includes within itself all the blessings of redemption. As he seeks to deal with his subject he confesses that he feels 'like a child paddling on the shore of an unfathomable ocean', but states that he has found the ground beneath his feet to be 'reassuringly solid' He declares that meditation on this truth has changed him for the better, and prays that those who read will know with increasing certainty that they are in the Lord Jesus Christ. This book, with additional material, is based on a series of addresses first preached at the Evangelical Movement of Wales English Conference at Aberystwyth in 2001 a time of ministry and fellowship which the author describes as 'golden days'.
