We could live free, but cleaning house is hard.

Emotional baggage is trendy. We might even joke about it. Yet, one of the early English definitions of luggage is anything of more weight than value. Let that sink in. When we collect, stack, and stockpile burdens, we add weight but not value to our lives.

What is clogging your heart? Worry, panic, or regret? False guilt, anger, or pride? Maybe deep places you don't talk about are buried under bitterness, worthlessness, or loneliness. You long for relief. This stuff has kept you stuck for too long. It's time to unburden your heart and clear out the emotional burdens hindering you from living free in Christ.

With humor, relatability, and biblical wisdom, Emotional Hoarding helps readers to stop holding on to grudges, anger, regrets, and unhealed wounds and instead find wholeness and healing in Christ. Join Laurie Davies as she reveals a path away from shame, heaviness, and isolation into wide open places where you can live unburdened and free.

Emotional hoarding not only affects you, but it touches all your relationships. With input from mental health professionals, this book is also a great resource for Christian counselors, life coaches, and ministry leaders.

Review

“I wasn’t ready to clean house. I picked up this book for a casual dust-up here and there. A quick skim will do it, I thought. But didn’t Laurie Davies go and open every door in my messy house of a heart? And didn’t her words, blending neuroscience psychology and deep biblical wisdom start hauling out some of the junk I’ve been hoarding (and resenting for taking up so much space)? And miraculously, she does this with wit, fun, and a voice you don’t want to stop. I can’t recommend this book enough.”
—Leslie Leyland Fields, author of Nearing a Far God: Praying the Psalms with Our Whole Selves

“With wisdom, humor, and deep compassion, Laurie Davies invites women to break free from the emotional clutter that weighs them down. Through personal stories and biblical insights, she equips readers to confront worry, fear, guilt, and shame with truth, bringing healing, forgiveness, and renewed faith. This book is a must-read for anyone ready to embrace God's grace and live a lighter, more joy-filled life.”
—Carol Kent, founder and executive director of Speak Up Ministries, speaker, and author of When I Lay My Isaac Down

“We live in a fast-paced world where we are prone to address what we can see like the clutter in our homes or the chaos in our schedules. We’re reticent to pause and examine the invisible accumulation occurring within us. As a clinical neuropsychologist, I’ve walked with thousands of patients who longed for healing but were afraid to open the overstuffed closets of their hearts. We don’t just carry emotional clutter; we hide it, protect it, and try to forget it’s there. Emotional Hoarding by Laurie Davies is a much-needed wake-up call to the reality that our minds and hearts are like our attics and closets: they become filled with unprocessed pain, often far more than we realize. Whether you’re a chronic worrier, someone wrestling with past regrets, or just aware that something feels off spiritually and emotionally, Emotional Hoarding will help you identify what you’ve been collecting and move from a cluttered heart to Christ-centered peace.”
—Dr. Michelle Bengtson, board-certified clinical neuropsychologist, international speaker, podcast host and author of The Hem of His Garment and Sacred Scars: Resting in God’s Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted

“Sometimes we are stuck and don’t even know it. We’ve got emotions crammed in every crevice of our souls, unaware of how it’s keeping us from life to the full. Emotional Hoarding shines a light on the hidden (but very real) overcrowding in our hearts, and offers a gentle yet clear path toward lasting freedom. Laurie Davies is the most tender, incredibly sharp, vulnerable, funny, and wise guide. You’ll want to read fast because it’s so good but savor every page because it’s so rich. Now is the time to let go of the stuff that’s keeping you stuck—this book will show you how.”
—Becky Keife, author of A Verse a Day for the Anxious Soul
