After the invasion of the 'barbarians, ' Jerome lamented, 'What is to become of the church now that Rome has fallen?' Instead, Augustine exclaimed, 'God has brought the mission field to the missionaries!' Grounded in solid biblical exposition and informed by Augustine's classic City of God, James Boice provides a transforming vision. We've never needed it more.--Michael Horton, Professor of Theology and Apologetics, Westminster Seminary California; Editor-in-Chief, Sola Media
Books that stand the test of time are rare. This new edition of Boice's Two Cities, Two Loves reads like it was written from today's news media yet is also drawn from Augustine's ancient wisdom. As evangelical confusion about God, government, and the church continues to divide, Boice speaks as an old and godly sage urging pastors and leaders to thoughtful gospel influence in our secular society. I highly recommend it!--Steve DeWitt, Senior Pastor, Bethel Church, Indiana; Author, Enjoying God in Everything
Never has the need been greater for the message of this book to be heard than it is today. Written by the renown expositor and gifted theologian, James Montgomery Boice, the truth of Two Cities, Two Loves, is more relevant today than when it was first written almost thirty years ago. The sub-title of this book--Christian Responsibility in a Crumbling Culture--says it all. We must act now as salt and light in this decadent society. Read every line of this book, process its teaching, and stand strong in this fallen world.--Steven J. Lawson, President, OnePassion Ministries
The church continues to move forward, as Christ promised it would, but along the way certain voices have been used as means by which Christ advances his purpose in the world. Jim Boice has been just such a voice. I remember first hearing Dr. Boice preach. It was incisive, cogent, and deeply compelling. The same is true of this book which deserves a read by a new generation. As relevant as it was 25 years ago (maybe more so?) "Two Cities" will be profitable for Christians who desire to be "blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation". Read this book carefully, prayerfully, and with a will to take your part.--Mike Bullmore, Senior Pastor, CrossWay Community Church, Bristol, Wisconsin
The city of God (New Jerusalem) and the city of man (Babylon the Great) have been locked in a titanic struggle since the Garden of Eden and the Fall. Someday Babylon will be defeated and banished to an eternal hell it deserves. The New Jerusalem will be realized and established forever as God's city. Until that day, followers of Christ need to know how to think and how to live in a world that looks more like Babylon than Jerusalem. This new edition of TWO CITIES/TWO LOVES by a hero of mine, James Boice, shows us how this can be done. I gladly commend these studies. Your heart, mind and soul will be enriched and equipped for the battle we are called to fight until King Jesus comes again.--Danny Akin, President, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary
